What Will I Learn ?

The classes cover the fundamentals and operation of our studio for TV & Web production. You’ll learn various positions including: Camera Operator, Audio Operator, Master Control, Graphics, Floor Director and Technical Director. Additional Certifications available for the use of cameras and equipment for remote shoots**. We also provide additional workshops and training in editing, lighting, camera techniques, visual fx, and the new VR station. Each class includes verbal instruction with visual demonstration and hands on practice.  C will be required to study their finish out with a written exam.

What Will It Cost ?

General Certification for the Studio and Vocal Booth cost $10 per person per session. There will be a written and oral exam prior to receiving your certification. The fee for this exam is $5.  You are able to retake both the certification demo and/or the exam as many times as is necessary, but you must pay the general rate each time. Hint**Keep those bills to yourself if you pay attention, practice and study  A typical certification which includes guided verbal instruction from a trained staffperson, workshop manuals and cheat sheets.

When are classes held?
Typically, each class can last 20 minutes to an hour, plus time for more hands on. Days and times vary, and are scheduled weekly. Please indicate your schedule availability on your application.

What is the cost ?
Studio Certification costs $10 per session, up to $50 for groups. for the workshop manual, payable on the first class day.

Where are the classes held ?
Classes are held at our downtown Chico Studio at 500 Main Street.

Do I need to have any previous experience in TV ?
Nope! The classes are geared for beginners and fine for all ages and backgrounds. We just ask that you are not afraid of technology, because the class is very “hands-on”!

Do I have to attend every session?
Absolutely. We cover a lot of information in each session, so attendance at every session is mandatory to complete your certification.

I have a background in TV production. Am I still required to take the class to get certified?
Those who have a professional background in television production have the option to test out of the class. Please contact us for details or indicate this in your application.

I am certified, now what?
Congratulations! You now have the privilege of booking the studio and vocal booth, time and guidance in our group and private editing bays, and checking out portable cameras and equipment* for remote shoots**. 

*Some cameras and equipment may require additional certification, waiting periods, and possibly a rental fee and proof of insurance.

**Keep in mind that any time you use BCAC’s facilities or equipment, it must be for the intent of producing a program for our public access hyperlocal community TV.

How long is the waiting list?
We aim to have our teams trained and producing on their own as quickly as possible.
